ABOUT US

The McGinnis family found Butterfly Lake in 1978, it was an old rock pit dug out for its precious sand and coral.   The Biscayne Aquifer springs were dug into during the excavation process (the underwater lake that feeds south Florida) and a lake was formed.  It was  John and Joyce McGinnis's dream to own a water ski lake in south Florida and they found the perfect site at Butterfly Lake.

Soon after, they built some property and opened up a ski school.  For many years it was run by various skiers.  Dave and Cyndi Benzel ran a ski camp for a while and Rusty Carter ran the lake for many years.  In 1988 the ski school was taken over by J.P. and Ann McGinnis.

Our site is 50 acres of the finest freshest water you will ski on.  We are protected from the prevailing wind and the lake is always smooth and perfect.  During the summer the water temperature is 88 degrees Fahrenheit and during the coldest winter months, it hardly ever dips below 70 degrees.  Our air and water temperatures will stay 10-15 degrees warmer in the winter than the central and northern parts of the state due to the Gulf Stream coming close to shore in West Palm Beach.

It is a wonderful ski site, and the conditions are fantastic year round.  You can always guarantee a good ski session, and you will be thoroughly spoiled by the warm water and smooth conditions.  No other boat traffic uses the lake, the environment is totally controlled, these are the best conditions to enjoy your sport!

These are our lakes, the guest house is situated halfway down the slalom course on the right side and the dock is at the north end of the lake, Florida Turnpike is the road to the left.
